I just loved working on Alissa and Shawn’s wedding at Bendooley Estate in Berrima in the Southern Highlands a few weeks ago and am still dreaming about it. Alissa came to me with this amazing vision for the day filled with rich jewelled colours, vintage brass vessels, bronze confetti, giant diamond pinatas and sequinned ribbons. Our first consultation was a 2 hr brainstorming session over a glass of wine (I knew from then we were on the same page). And I just I had to get it right. I think when two creative minds come together that are like minded good things are bound to happen.
I put in my orders for my essential materials but I knew this one was going to be about scouring the early morning market for those perfect colour combinations and special finds. Which I always love doing - but it does add that extra layer of pressure. Bendooley Estate have this amazing flower workroom and I knew I had some time on my hands down there so I was determined to finnish my arranging looking out into a field so packing the van the night before with arrangements and buckets full of extra flowers and foliages was quite the task to be all ready to get up at 3:30am and make our way down by 8am to start the ceiling installations. I thought to myself, just once I’m not going to lose the key to the van. Especially now. Within 10 minutes that morning the key had jumped out of my pocket onto the grass into the dark. Just as well it was a quick find.
When we arrived into the estate the adrenalin kicked in, I already loved this place and the monster chandeliers came to life. Joni from Chasing Arrows was also around for the day to install all of Alissa’s amazing styling and I had such a blast with her. It always makes for a good time when you have a great team working with you. The team from the event management, restaurant staff, to chefs at Bendooley Estate were also absolutely lovely, welcoming and helpful making our jobs so much easier. The head chef even bringing Joni and I a pack of snakes to keep us going through the day. When it all came together I was in absolute awe.. I just love books, confetti, flowers, and brass vintage so to see them all in one room was just magnificent. I can’t wait to see some of the professional photos and will definitely share soon!
